The sun declines and the people whine
what a scorching hot day it’s been
then people meander and never ask why
the light is good to begin with.
As evening’s cool settles in
the common man’s done thinking
he enjoys the lax sun setting
and the day’s rest remaining
Yet unbeknownst to most mankind
is that this is winter’s solstice
And the lack of light brings with it
no refuge or solace.
As evening turns to dusk
and darkness floods the lands
I light a dusty lantern
and welcome who comes earnest
